My Drive Home

Here is photo from my 2 hour drive home. It normally takes me 45 minutes, but as you can see the weather was pretty bad. It did not help that the roads were completely unplowed!

First Snow of this Year!

Well not actually this Calendar year — but the first snow of this season. I knew it before I even opened my eyes this morning at 4AM because of the plow scraping the tiny bit of snow off the road. They sure are crazy about plowing in my town!

Angry Dick's Employees!

I found this group on facebook today — I gotta say that it makes me not want to shop at Dick's! I wonder if the corporate heads know about this. They will now cause I am going to let them know.

Cumberland Farms Salami Slicing Its Customers &mdash 1¢ scheme?

On the way home from work today I stopped at my local Cumberland Farms to buy gas. I swiped my debit card and lied to the machine and told it that the card was not a debit card. I pumped exactly 10.000 gallons. Now my hand is off the pump. A few seconds later I watch in disbelief as the pump adds an additiona .002 gallons to my total raising the amount I am charged by one cent! I suppose the valve on the pump could be malfunctioning, but I did not hear any more gas being pumped into the car!

Now I really don't care about the 1 cent — but if they did to every one of their customers it would add up quick. I still buy gas there as it is the cheapest even after the 1¢ scheme.

Just as a warning to others -- keep a sharp eye out when shopping at Cumberland Farms.

Yahoo!! 3rd Season of Shakugan no Shana!

According Dengeki online it was hinted at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival. If so I will be quite happy — that show has such great writing, artwork, and voice actors!

Awesome 404 page on Hasbro's Web Site

I love it when a large corporation can have a sense of humor and Hasbro's 404 (page not found) error page is a great example of it. It defused what could be a frustrating experience. I did find what I was looking for in the end too.

$2 Paperboy

The paperboy from "Better off Dead" has to be one of my favorite movie characters. I feel bad that he doesn't get his $2 in the end, but it sure is funny! Especially the part where John Cusack yells KEYS!!! Thank you Yano Anaya for your portrayal!

Cheap Skype Router at Wal✭Mart

Since canceling my home phone I have been using skype to make calls from home. I never really liked using a headset on my PC, just something weird about it. Also you are chained to your PC. I know that there are a few USB cordless headsets out there, but none of them work in Linux.

I really wanted a router with a wireless headset, but they were so expensive! Recently my local Wal✭Mart was carrying GE 2 in 1 - Internet & Standard Phone 28319EE1 — for $179.99. It wasn't selling for that crazy price and so after a while it went to the clearance rack. I watched the price drop $10 a week and I said to my wife that if it went under $50 I would buy it. Well it did it hit $45!

The phone works very well and the sound is great. The only problem I had was once it locked up, but I pulled the batteries and it worked fine afterwards. I particularly like that it uses standard rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries so I know that I won't have any problems finding replacements in the future.

Here is a link to Wal✭Mart's page for the phone -- you can check to see if your local store has it in stock — you might be able to get it for $45!

Driving with Welding Goggles

Not really -- but I sure wish there was something to be done -- This is what I see all the way to work in the morning and all the way home in the evening. It gives me a wicked headache!

These claim to be a help -- but with the sun is directly in front of you the only thing that I can see that would work would be welding glasses! I mean if the company wants to give me a pair to review I would try them and review them.

The Panic of 1819

It is just so strange how history repeats itself:

  1. War
  2. Easy Credit
  3. Real Estate Expansion
  4. Inflation
  5. Banks in Trouble
  6. Congress throws money at the problem

Panic of 1819 - Wikipedia

It only took 18 years for it to happen again:

So maybe we aren't doing to bad. LOL I think not.
